How to get rid of Ankle Sprain

May 21, 2010
Category : Ankle Pain 12 Comments »

Ankle Pain An Ankle Sprain is a common musculoskeletal injury in which the ligaments of the ankle partially or completely tear due to sudden stretching.  This typically occurs when the ankle is suddenly twisted in sports or by stepping off an uneven surface.  The pain is initially severe and can be associated with a “popping” sensation.  Swelling will immediately follow over the area of injury. Partial tears retain some ankle stability, whereas complete tears lead to lost stability because the strapping ligament no longer braces the ankle joint.

When an ankle is injured with a sprain, tissue injury and inflammation occur.  Blood vessels become leaky and allow fluid to ooze into the soft tissue surrounding the joint.  White blood cells are responsible for the inflammation migrate to the area, and blood flow increases as well.  Typical changes that happen with inflammation include swelling and pain because the nerves become more sensitive.  The joints may hurt and throb and the pain can worsen when the sore area is pressed.  Redness and warmth may occur due to the blood flow in the area.

Initial treatments with ice, rest and limiting the amount of walking and weight bearing on the injured ankle are often used.  The leg may be elevated to reduce swelling and crutches are often recommended to avoid further trauma to the injured ligaments.  Others opt to take anti-inflammatory medications to help reduce local inflammation.  Those with severe injuries are placed in immobilization casts and may even consider surgery.  Still, there are those who prefer a less invasive form of treatment. Far Infrared Ray Heat Therapy may be applied at home.  Its deep penetrating heat increases blood circulation, which helps minimize swelling as well as provides warmth that eases the pain as it aids in speeding up the healing process.

Far Infrared Rays at a Glance

Heat Therapy or Thermal Therapy has been around since the dawn of olden civilization. It dates back to the time of Ancient China, Japan, Tibet, Rome and Egypt. Back then, the people relied on the ancient art of palm healing. Although these ancient practitioners did not know the scientific reasons why their technique worked, they could tell that it improved the health of their patients. That was enough proof that palm healing works and is effective.

Today, scientists identified the reason why palm healing works. Far Infrared Ray (FIR) is emitted from the healer’s hand and is transferred to their patients, giving warmth, comfort and relief.

This is the same FIR that people get from the sun. We have been told to soak in the morning sun because of all its benefits. Remember the warm, soothing feeling that seems to reach even your muscles and bones? It feels invigorating, revitalizing, calming and relaxing at the same. It makes you feel all sorts of seemingly contradicting sensations that add up and gives you a sense of well-being. It just simply feels good.

The Far Infrared Ray that is used in palm healing is the same FIR emitted by the sun. These waves of energy that are invisible to the naked eye are capable of penetrating deep into the human body, literally down to the muscles and bones. It gently elevates the body’s temperature, providing safe warmth and soothing relief.

Unlike ultraviolet rays from the sun that causes sunburn, skin damage and skin cancer, Far Infrared Rays are a safe form of light energy that heat objects by direct light conversion. It is so safe that neonatal care units now use FIR to keep infants warm.

FIR is proven effective that scientists conducted further studies and learned more about its benefits. FIR’s deep penetrability capacity causes the blood vessels in capillaries to dilate, improving blood circulation which eases muscle pain and allow injuries to heal faster.

FIR’s deep penetrating heat assists in the breaking down of toxins in the body from environmental poisons to toxic substances from food processing, lactic acid, fatty acids, subcutaneous fat, excess sodium and uric acid. This detoxification helps prevent chronic health problems from plaguing your body.

The many benefits of FIR intrigued western scientists so much that they began studying ways to harness it to bring comfort and healing to the world in a much larger scale. Recreating the Far Infrared Ray from the sun, FIR Heat Therapy products are now available for home use. They are practical, cost-efficient, safe and effective.

Ways to Reduce Neck and Shoulder Pains

Feb 16, 2010

Are you one of those millions of people who experience neck and shoulder pains which make simple everyday tasks seem so daunting?  Well then, you are amongst the many individuals suffering from this discomfort. There are a number of possible causes for this ailment and I am sure that the reason you are reading this article is to find ways and means to prevent and / or treat this.

There are many ways to relieve and reduce pain in our neck and shoulders but before I get into that, let me just point out the common cause of neck and shoulder discomforts – Structural Stress. Structural stress or bad posture is caused by chronic slouching. If you do this on a regular basis, this may result to chronic structural stress. Holding shoulders at an elevated position for a long period of time can cause tension which results to pain in the neck and shoulder areas. Another would be holding a phone on your shoulders for a long time which causes cramps and places our shoulders in a “defensive” position that also strains our neck. Stress also contributes greatly. Have you noticed that whenever you are stressed, your shoulders come into close contact to your ears which cause tension our neck and shoulder area?

Reduce Pain

One way for you to experience relief would be to relax the muscles. Some pain relievers may include applying heat therapy, getting massages and doing some stretching exercises. By improving your overall posture and keeping your body in a straighter position helps in easing the tension in your neck and shoulders. Exercises that I highly recommend include Pilates which improves your posture in addition to strengthening your core.

If you are currently suffering from an extremely tensed shoulder muscles, getting a massage might hurt so I recommend that you try some heat-base products like a hot compress or a neck wrap which will help soothe some of the aches and pains due to whiplash, muscle tensions, headaches, herniated disc and pinched nerves. The heat will help ease the pain which will make the massage feel much better.
Pain relief can be achieved through these methods, however if you constantly experience these aches on a regular basis and if the pain that you are experiencing is excruciating, I suggest you also consult with your physician for further examination.

How You Can Relieve Muscle Spasms

Feb 15, 2010
Category : Muscle Pain 11 Comments »

If you are one of those people who experiences muscle spasms, fear not, there are several ways of relieving these types of discomfort. I know this feeling because I recently had leg cramps and it was so painful that I felt the tears welling up in my eyes as I whimper in pain. My doctor had to prescribe a muscle relaxer for pain relief which I didn’t react well to. I wasn’t able to do my daily activities which made me restless.

A few months ago, I also experienced this sore knot at my back which was more painful. My boyfriend had to take me to the chiropractor where an ultrasound machine was placed on my back in order for my muscles to relax. The pain that I endured from that procedure was so excruciating that I never forgot it!

Treatments

Since I do not enjoy any sort of muscle cramp, I did some research online and found several ways to relieve muscle spasms. Some ways to prevent and treat muscle spasm is to make sure that you eat right since cramp muscles are often a result of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It is therefore advisable to take in minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium. Eating bananas is good since it is known to be an effective treatment for muscle cramps. Aside from that, incorporating cheese in your diet is also recommended to relieve cramp muscles.

Muscle spasm relief can also be achieved with gentle massages and stretching since it allows the muscles to loosen up. Herbal remedies can also be used such as Lavender and peppermint essential oil, Arnica gel or cream, Black Cohosh and Horse Chestnut.

Using hot and cold compress is a popular muscle spasm treatment especially in my household. This is particularly advisable for back spasms. Cold compress reduces swelling caused by muscle tension. On the other hand, hot compress increases circulation which relaxes the muscles and allows it to loosen up. Heat Therapy is another good way to relieve muscle aches. This is the reason why heat-base products such as multi-purpose heating pads like the KB-1201 Universal Heating Pad is popular since it is great for the neck, back, shoulders, arms, lower back, abdomen, knees and legs. Also, if you happen to have a bathtub, try running a warm bath which will help reduce your muscle aches.

Aside from having a good diet, other ways to reduce the chances of getting cramps includes stretching and exercising on a regular basis. In addition, try to engage in activities such as walking, running and biking. Also, I recommend that you take up yoga since it makes the muscles stronger and keeps it healthy and relaxed which is one of the best ways to prevent muscle spasms.

Relief for Your Chronic Back Pain

Chronic Back PainIf you are one of those people who experience back pains, like Michael Jackson, I say to you, “You Are Not Alone.” I too have had my own share of minor and major back pains and I feel for you. In my case, I attribute my discomfort to stress and to my scoliosis. Aside from my painful break-ups, this has been another constant thing in my life. My answer to this problem was to take pain relievers which allowed me to go about my daily activities. Advil and I had become best friends.

If you are one of those estimated 90% (according to Men’s Health Magazine) who experience back pain, welcome to the club. Chronic Back Pain can be so serious that surgery is recommended and yet sometimes surgery might not even bring relief. This is because some cases of Chronic Back Pain are irreversible even with surgery. The bottom line is, whatever type of pain you are currently experiencing can be minimized with some tried and tested methods which I will impart to you. Yes, to you, because I want you to feel rejuvenated and alive without taking too many painkillers which can kill you if you OD. That is what my friends told me… “Do you want to die like Heath Ledger who became addicted to prescription drugs?” of course I said No…then asked, “Who is Heath Ledger?”

With regards to your aches and pains, a tried and tested method would be exercising and doing some stretching which made me stronger and helped increase my muscle strength. I suggest you use your back muscles as well, but to do this slowly and carefully. This is because your muscle’s strength and health will allow your entire body to be better equipped to reduce your back pain. Another good way to relieve back pain would be a massage because it helps relax the muscles which in turn alleviates the pain and improves the blood circulation.

You may also want to try out Heat Therapy which is an effective treatment in relieving muscle aches and pain. You simply have to apply heat to the affected body part and it should help treat the pain. Due to the technological advancement of today’s modern world, heat therapy products have been made to fit the needs of an individual.

As such, I have discovered this product called a Back Wrap which was given as a gift to my grandma, and surprisingly, she bought one for me as well. At first, I felt weird sitting beside her while she had her Back Wrap on and insisted that I wear mine too and that it would be “our thing” – meaning wearing it together. Well, I have to admit, after the initial awkwardness, I felt an instant relief. It helped relieve my back pains and eventually, I discovered that I could also use this to soothe my abdominal cramps – by simply turning the Back Wrap around.

So there you have, ways that can help you alleviate Back Pain; you may take Advil or other pain relievers, exercise and do some stretching, choose a relaxing spa treatment or simply use a heat therapy product such as Back Wrap which my grandma would definitely vote for.
